Cardiovascular training is loosely defined as “an activity continually maintained and performed rhythmically . . . used to stimulate and challenge your muscles, heart, and lungs10.” There are two forms of cardio I believe are most important to explain in order to help you keep your body strong and in the best condition. These are low intensity steady state cardio (LISS) and high intensity interval training (HIIT). If you are without prior injury or risk, performing a mix of both types in your routine is most beneficial. LISS is loosely explained by “keeping your intensity low (approximately 65%) for long periods of time your body is encouraged to use fat stores11.”
Examples of LISS include:
• Jogging
• Walking
• Swimming
• Biking
